With map in hand we set out off the highway in search of the Barlow Road. At the base of Mt. Hood we soon found it. Walking the road for about a half mile we saw many places where the wagon ruts still are visable.
The Lewis and Clark expedition also came by here on the Columbia in 1805 on their way to winter at what became Ft. Clatsop.
I'm amazed each time I drive through here. It only takes a few minutes- when just 150 years ago pioneers risked everything on this passage, the most dangerous of the whole journey.
